FAQ: Does a Freelance Attorney Sign Pleadings and/or Represent my Client?

Quite simply, no and no. A freelance attorney will not sign any pleadings and does not represent your client. A freelance attorney will draft filings for your signature only and the freelance attorney’s name or contact information will not appear anywhere on the filing.

Further, a freelance attorney typically has no interaction with your client and an attorney-client relationship never forms. In many circumstances, the client never even knows that the freelance attorney is working on the case.
